Clive Taylor (1949-2011)  - RIP

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of our secretary Clive Taylor.
Clive was killed in a road accident on 22 July 2011 on the A82 just north of Dumbarton.
At the time John Powell and I were riding with Clive from Newcastle to Ardfern. There was moderate traffic and we were separated by a number of vehicles. We were both ahead of Clive and didn't see the accident, but we returned to the scene as soon as we realised that he was not with us.
We spoke to the drivers of the vehicles ahead of Clive and behind him. Both confirmed that his riding had been perfectly normal. It seems a 4x4 travelling in the opposite direction veered across the road and hit Clive almost head on. Clive was thrown up the bank at the side of the road and his bike thrown against the crash barrier. His injuries were severe and he must have died instantly. The accident happened in daylight on a straight road in fine weather. The road was closed for 6 hours while the police carried out a detailed examination of the scene. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal so it's best not to speculate on the cause of the accident.
Clive had been an enthusiastic Member of the Northumbria Branch for about 7 years. On his retirement 2 years ago and having more time, he wanted to get more involved in the running of the branch and became Branch Secretary last year. We will miss his diligent record keeping and attention to correspondence as well as his enthusiasm. He had just secured the agreement of the Executive Committee to the Northumbria Branch running the 2013 National Rally.  We will certainly organise that in his memory.
Clive had many other interests. He was a member of the Northumbria Advanced motorcyclists and had just qualified as an instructor. He was a keen cyclist, ornithologist and botanist. He had recently become involved in a project to remove non native trees and replace them with native species.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to Frances, his partner and to his adult children Hannah and Saul.
The funeral took at Newcastle Crematorium on Friday 5th August 2011.

Chairman
